After receiving the medical marijuana authorization form from your healthcare practitioner, you have the option to be entered into the Washington state medical marijuana authorization database. When entered into the database by a certified medical marijuana consultant, you are issued a laminated card to keep on you when you visit a store. The form provides affirmative criminal defense against possession charges (if you possess or grow an amount under the possession limit). The authorization card, which costs $1, gives patients access to a higher transaction limit, a higher possession limit, a higher grow limit, as well as exemption of local state or sales tax.
